Cooling Tips

  • If you have a portable or window-mounted air-conditioner, only turn it on after you’ve closed all your doors and windows.
  • Make sure the size of any air conditioner you use matches the size of the window and seal any air leaks. Remember to keep the air conditioner filters clean.
  • Don’t continuously run fans or air conditioners 24/7. If a room has cooled down, turn off cooling devices to conserve energy.
  • Do not run multiple fans in one room.
  • Sleep with minimal bedding made of a light fabric.
  • If you feel too warm at night, try sleeping with a cold facecloth on your forehead.
  • Have a quick 30-second cold shower to cool down.
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting summer clothing.
  • Remember to drink plenty of liquids in the summer to keep your body as cool and comfortable as possible.
  • On sunny summer days, keep heat out by closing west-facing windows, blinds and curtains.
  • On summer nights with a breeze, open your blind, curtains and windows to allow cool air in. Remember to turn any air conditioners off if you open a window.
  • Limit your oven use and baking during the summer.
